I hope this relates to the video.

When I started writing this at about 10:36pm on Saturday night, I had absolutely no clue what I was going to write, so let's begin with what I was thinking about while watching the documentary.

The Hillary campaign was marred by stupid controversies. First off was the one that doesn't relate to the video, which is the email one. Every politician is either crazy or has done the exact same thing Hillary has done, so that one doesn't matter. I mean, it does, but it shouldn't have had the effect. The reason it was exacerbated so much was because she was woman. This "criticism" was the one thrown at Hillary so much during the campaign. While a lot of it was sexist, there really was some valid reasoning as to pulling a "you're just hoping you'll get votes by saying you're a woman" card (this is the second controversy, it is not as stupid). This is because this is kind of what she was doing. Sure, she said things about what she wanted to achieve and that America will be better with a woman at the helm, and that's all well and good. However, I'm not alone in thinking that nobody had any idea if she had any idea as to how she would go about solving her version of the laundry list of America's Problems. The problem with Hillary was not that she was a woman, but because she handled her campaign horribly. She was also, from what I saw, incapable of leading the US. This isn't to say that  (blah blah blah Trump bad, she better blah), so why did Hillary lose (yes I know Trump didn't get popular vote, but who cares he got enough votes to win)? America has quite a few sexists in it. These people, by virtue of the internet, get to have their voices amplified by an incalculable factor. Now, we have to deal with the fallout of their voices having gotten into people's minds and making people think that Hillary is a devil, for sexist or non-sexist reasons. Remember when a good-sized chunk of Bernie supporters jumped over the Trump because they believed Hillary was so bad? Yeah, it's the stupidest thing you've ever heard, and it happened because, at least in social media, a significant enough portion of people were able to place the idea in peoples' heads that Hillary was 'evil,' and that we should do anything in our people to not get her elected. So there we have it. Hillary is not incompetent because she is a woman, but incompetent and happens to be a women. Now you know, don't let the media dictate what you think. Oh wait that's not possible. That being said, I guess there will always be a Trump on planet Earth. The good thing is, I get to represent 1/101 millionth of the Philippines and 1/330 millionth in the US when I vote out the dirtbags running my countries.

  1. What you've been describing is identity politics, the idea that it doesn't matter so much what someone's policies are as who they are. While in some cases I think it is valid (ex: I don't want Roy Moore in power regardless of his policies) a lot of the time people are just voting Trump for the sake of voting for a celebrity or a Republican. The democrats have it even worse, as most of the time it isn't enough to vote for the candidate with the best policies, you have to vote for the woman, or the woman of colour, to the point where it just seems like tokenizing. I think if you want to vote for Bernie or whoever, go for it, and if someone calls you out on voting for a white male, try to remind them what's actually important.
